Coldest Brisbane morning in 4 years
While nowhere near a very cold morning for the whole region, the Brisbane CBD site went down to 3.7C this morning. Archerfield was 4.4C, Coolangatta 2.9C, Beaudesert 0C, Amberley -0.9C, Warwick -3C and Stanthorpe -5C. To put things in perspective, the last very cold morning was July 19 last year, when Brisbane had 3.8C. On [...]
Weather eases, another low heading for NZ
After yesterday’s exciting Winter weather, today back right off with moderate SW winds after a cool to cold morning. Despite contining breeze, Amberley went down to 2.2C, I had 4.1C, Archerfield 6.6C and Stanthorpe -1C. Max temps were at 20-21. Today’s weather went according to plan, until some surprising showers developed under some moderate cumulus [...]
Snow, sleet, hail, cold
After watching this system for several days, finally it arrived. It didn’t really pan out as big as it could’ve been, but it was still good! Several places in SEQld had snow today including the areas in the Granite Belt and southern Downs south of Allora. Generally these showers were fast moving (and with the [...]
Storage reaches 40% | Cool, rain clearing
For the first time in three years, the total water storage in the SEQld dams has reached 40%. It’s been a long time coming… but there’s still a long way to go. Level 6 restrictions will now be dropped. This comes after steady rainfall over the area during the last 1-2 days. Falls were generally [...]
Showers/rain over most of Qld
As shown in the satellite image, much of Qld was today covered in cloud. Generally light rain was falling from it, heavier over eastern inland and coastal parts north of about the Sunshine Coast. Best falls to 9am were in the areas bounded by Hughendon (32mm), Georgetown (38mm) and the coast from Cairns (Tully 67mm) [...]
Interesting times ahead; cold blast in Tassie
Mid level cloud raced through this morning with very patchy light rain. Falls were up to only 3mm. This followed a fine weekend, with cold morning temps. On Saturday the 18th, Amberley was down to 2.2C (3.6C at my place) and on the 19th, they were 0.9C (3.3C). The cloud then moved down from the [...]
Rain and weak isolated storm activity yesterday; fine today
Yesterday (I forgot to post!) was an overcast day with light, patchy rain until about lunch time before it cleared seawards. Wolfdene had 41mm all up and Forest Lake had about 12mm; the patchy rain only added 2-5mm to the previous afternoon’s showers and weak storms. Incidentally, when rain was falling early in the morning, [...]
Early fog, afternoon showers/rain
It was another mild morning with minimum temps in the 15-17C range. Thick fog was again present, and it delayed flights for a couple of hours at the airport, where visiblity was observed as down to 50m! In my area, it was similar… in fact it was one of the thickest fogs I’ve seen! Temps [...]
